The Estes family has resided on the farm near Bayard, Ne since 2002.
Billy has fond Memories of his grandmothers’ penchants for growing pumpkins, as well as childhood stops to a patch outside of Cairo, Ne inspired a desire to grow a patch of his own.
Billy has grown about a quarter to half an acre of pumpkins since age 15, with 2016 being the first official season with the Pumpkin Patch at BEFarm. The 2016 crop was commercially marketed directly to grocery stores; however, in 2017 the patch opened for patrons to pick their own.
In 2017 the pink pumpkin variety was added. They have a special place in Billy's heart and mind: his grandmother passed away from breast cancer in 2012, and his mother is a breast cancer survivor.
The Pumpkin Patch is donating 50 percent of all sales from the Porcelain Doll pumpkin variety to Festival of Hope, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help cancer patients in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming with non-medical expenses related to cancer care and treatment. In 2017 the patch donated over $1,500.
All of our pumpkins & Squash are planted by hand from certified organic seed and grown using organic farming principles. Your family can enjoy our farm with out the worry of exposing your little ones to un-needed chemicals.
